Fusion is a nuclear reaction in which two nuclei unite and produce a heavier nucleus. If two light nuclei fuse, e.g. Hydrogen or Helium, the reaction sets a large amount of energy free—usually much more than is achievable by fission[1].

Fusion engines use the energy set free during nuclear fusion to accelerate the propellant mass out of the thrusters. They are more efficient than fission engines.
